Description:
2-Aminobenzoate is an intermediate derived from tryptophan and other indole ring-containing compounds. The catabolism of 2-aminobenzoic acid has been well-studied. Here we only addressed the aerobic biodegradation pathway, the anaerobic pathway is documented elsewhere in the UMBBD. Pseudomonas sp. KB740 transforms 2-aminobenzoate to 1,4-cyclohexadione via 2-amino-5-oxo-cyclohex-1-enecarboxy-CoA ([http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1885526|Altenschmidt et al., 1991]). Other pseudomonads transform it directly to catechol ([http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14209949|Taniuchi et al., 1964]). The fungus Aspergillus niger takes two steps to get to the same end ([http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2310183|Kamath & Vaidyanathan, 1990]).
